FAQ Schema Generator: what to know
The FAQ schema generator turns a list of questions and answers into FAQPage JSON-LD: a Question entity for each item with its accepted Answer, wrapped in a FAQPage. It's valid schema.org markup that describes a page's question-and-answer content in a way machines can read.
Be clear about what it does for Google today. In August 2023 Google limited FAQ rich results, the expandable questions under a search result, to well-known authoritative government and health websites. In May 2026 it stopped showing FAQ rich results in Google Search altogether and removed the documentation. So FAQPage markup won't produce expandable questions in Google for any site.
It can still be worth adding when the page really has an FAQ section: it's harmless, it describes the content precisely, and other search engines and AI systems may read schema.org markup. The rules are the same as for any structured data: every question and answer must be visible on the page, written by you, with one FAQPage per page.
Popular uses
- Marking up help center and product FAQ sections
- Describing support pages for search engines other than Google
- Keeping structured data consistent across a site's templates
- Replacing hand-written FAQ JSON that has syntax errors
Tips for the best result
- Don't add FAQ markup to pages where users can submit answers; that's a Q&A page.
- Keep the answer text identical to what's shown on the page.
- Don't use FAQ markup for advertising or to repeat the same questions on every page.
