Open Graph Tag Generator: what to know
Open Graph is a set of meta tags that describes a page for sharing: og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url and og:type, plus optional details such as og:site_name and og:locale. Social networks, messaging apps and chat tools read these tags to build the preview card that appears when someone posts your link. The generator turns a short form into the correct tags, ready to paste into your page's head.
Without Open Graph tags, apps guess: they take the page title, the first sentence they find and any image on the page, which can mean a cropped logo or no image at all. Good tags give every share a clear headline, a one-line description and a strong image. They don't affect Google rankings, but a better card earns more clicks wherever your link is shared.
The image matters most. Use an absolute https URL, about 1200 × 630 pixels, under a few megabytes, in JPEG, PNG or WebP. Keep text large and away from the edges, because some apps crop to a square. Set og:url to the page's canonical URL so shares of different variants are counted together.
Popular uses
- Adding share cards to blog posts and landing pages
- Fixing links that share with the wrong image
- Setting up templates for product pages
- Preparing pages before a social campaign
Tips for the best result
- Write og:title for a feed, not a search result: short and specific, without the brand suffix.
- Check the result with the social preview tool before you publish.
- Use og:type article for posts and website for everything else.
