Article Schema Generator: what to know
Article markup describes a news story, blog post or other article: its headline, images, author, publisher and the dates it was published and last updated. The article schema generator builds that JSON-LD as Article, NewsArticle or BlogPosting, ready to paste into the page.
Google doesn't require any specific property for Article markup, but it recommends headline, image, datePublished, dateModified and author, ideally with the author's name and a url to their profile page. These help Google pick the right title, image and date for the result and understand who wrote the piece. Author information should name real people or organizations, matching the byline on the page.
Dates should be ISO 8601 with a timezone, such as 2026-03-14T09:30:00+01:00. Update dateModified when you substantially change the article, not when you fix a typo or change a sidebar; Google can show the date in results and stale or inflated dates erode trust.
Popular uses
- Marking up blog posts and news articles
- Adding author and publisher details
- Showing accurate published and updated dates
- Checking the markup a CMS theme outputs
Tips for the best result
- Use the same headline as the page's H1, or a close match.
- List each author separately, with a name and url.
- Use images at least 1200 pixels wide in the image property.
