Schema Types for Rich Results

Which schema.org types Google shows, and what each needs.

About Schema types for rich results

Structured data describes a page in a machine-readable way, usually as JSON-LD in a script tag using the schema.org vocabulary. Google uses it to understand pages and, for a limited set of types, to show rich results: stars under a product, event dates, recipe images, job listings and breadcrumbs in place of the URL. Schema.org defines hundreds of types, but only the ones in Google's search gallery can produce a rich result in Google Search.

Valid markup makes a page eligible, not guaranteed: Google decides whether to show a rich result based on the query, the page's quality and its own policies, and the markup must describe content that is visible on the page. The list has also shrunk. How-to results were dropped in 2023, the sitelinks search box in 2024, several smaller features in 2025, and FAQ results, which had been limited to government and health sites since 2023, stopped appearing in May 2026. The required properties below are a summary; check Google's page for each type before you deploy.

Good to know

Test before you ship

Google's Rich Results Test shows which features a page is eligible for, and Search Console's enhancement reports show errors across the site. A syntax check like our schema validator catches broken JSON and missing basics, but only Google's tools can confirm eligibility.

Markup must match the page

Marking up content users can't see, such as reviews that aren't on the page or a price that differs from the visible one, is against Google's structured data guidelines and can lead to a manual action.
